Establishing Seeded Tall Fescue with Covers and Drip Irrigation Methods

The use of covers may improve establishment seeded turfgrass but their in combination with drip irrigation techniques has not been evaluated. We investigated the effects two cover types and three methods on tall fescue turfgrass. For spring seeding [Schedonorus arundinaceus (Schreb.) Dumort.], turf was successful subsurface (SDI) aboveground (AGD) fine textured soil transition zone. With SDI, AGD, or sprinkler irrigation, both polyester mesh (Poly) straw blanket (Straw) improved order Poly > Straw No Cover, became similar over time. Soil surface temperature averaged higher (14°C [57°F]) than (9.5°C [49°F]) Cover (8.6°C [47.5°F]) during first 12 days after when were installed. Results indicate that seeded, cool-season a fine-textured US zone climate by mitigating low extremes reducing erosion rainfall. Establishment between (SDI AGD) protective is recommended establishing from seed.
